The end of Feb / beginning of March is the time the Cranes migrate back to northern Europe across France. Every year they pass overhead here and again this year it was quite spectacular. Day after day of cawing as waves and waves of them stream across. They go pretty fast and can be pretty low too. This year on the 4th March there was a storm which sent the birds into a frenzy, they didn’t know where to go, squawking like parrots, not managing to stay in their characteristic V formation. In the end I should think they made their way round the storm clouds and then the following couple of days saw thousands of them come over, wave after wave, back on track.
