There are two rows of willow in our willow hedge in front of the house and every winter we chop one whole row down – to just above the ground. We alternate this each year and the subsequent growth is straighter and thinner than it would be if we left it to grow into a row of trees. It’s quite a big job and the tractor and trailer make a good alternative to a donkey.
